DIY Conservatory Prices
Surely, one of the main reasons to build a conservatory yourself is the cost factor, or more, the potential savings. DIY conservatories are in general rather affordable, and provide much more control over the final price if you can do some major work on your own. Still, one has to be aware of the hidden costs – saving on the base may not be a good idea. On the other hand, do you really need your glasshouse heated to room temperature around the year, or will keeping it frost-free to accommodate some plants not be sufficient? Do you really need full water and waste water supply, i.e. because you want to install a kitchen later? Having a clear idea of the future purpose is the biggest cost saver. At the same time, maintenance and especially heating costs should not be underestimated.
With this in mind, how much does a diy conservatory really cost? In general, conservatory prices seem to be some sort of secret, most manufacturers rarely disclose them up front, mainly because there are so many individual factors involved. Makers of diy conservatory kits on the other hand seem to be much more open about it, in fact the price seems to become a major selling point.
We have seen diy conservatory kits advertised for as low as GBP 995. Several offers are available at around £1500. The material in this price range is usually UPVC. Aluminum, lean-to greenhouse kits which can serve the purpose of a conservatory too may cost £3000-£4500. We have seen some timber constructions in this price range too. At GBP 8000-10000 the choice really broadens. For this amount you should be able to buy a durable, impressive glasshouse kit with thermal insulation.
